Solidarity letter for “Freedom from Toxic Fracking Waste” – National Rally Day, SEpt. 12, 2012.
To: Vanessa Pasec, President of NEOGAP – Network for Oil and Gas Accountability & Protection
Dear NEOGAP friends and allies,
On behalf of many North Carolina organizations working against fracking, we want to express our strong solidarity with your actions today, Sept. 12, during the “Freedom from Toxic Fracking Waste” rallies in Ohio and nationwide.
Through media reports, regulatory research and personal contacts we have learned about the harmful consequences of fracking, including impacts from the disposal of toxic fracking waste through injection wells, a plague that has only intensified in Ohio in the past year! We know this practice has been linked to earthquakes in regions not known for seismic activity, like Youngstown, causing damage and stress. In addition, as injection well casings are prone to fail, this puts regions of Ohio laced with these wells at risk of serious drinking water contamination from harmful fracking chemicals, and natural shale contaminants, including heavy metals, volatile organic chemicals and radioactive materials.
We support NEOGAP’s efforts to put clean water and human health first! We know that your work in Ohio is crucial to communities affected by the disposal of harmful wastewater and we stand with NEOGAP in the fight for freedom for toxic wastes from hydraulic fracturing.
Wishing you strength and success as you stand on the front lines in protecting America’s communities from the wide-ranging impacts of fracking,
